THE YEARS: 2005
The popular video sharing website “YouTube” was created by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim during February of 2005. MG Rover, the UK's sole remaining volume producer goes into receivership, Tony Blair was elected for a third term as Prime Minister, Britain implements The Civil Partnership Act granting civil partnerships "which include same sex partnerships" with rights and responsibilities identical to civil marriage; four explosions rock the transport network in London, three on the London Underground and one on a bus; and the marriage of The Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles takes place. Popular films of the year included Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Brokeback Mountain.
Though 2004 had indicated that the UYOA
Tournament was on its last legs some attempt to maintain its
life was put in by the organisers including changing the format
(I believe only team events were discussed as well as a 54 hole
tournament) - but despite the attempts the interest in the event
diminished and time was eventually called on the UYOA experience
in mid 2005.
The website stayed online for a while
longer, but the banners were put away and all those involved
developed new interests and soon UYOA was left to gather dust in
a corner of the internet.
In 2007 the website was shut down - so ended
the UYOA experience.
