THE YEARS: 2000
The Concerns over Y2K passes without the serious, widespread computer failures and malfunctions that had been predicted, Microsoft releases Windows 2000. The Dot Com Bubble Bursts and thousands of DotComs go bust. Tiger Woods becomes the youngest player to win a Grand Slam in Golf, and Ken Livingstone is elected as London's first elected mayor. Popular films of the year included, Mission Impossible 2, Meet the Parents, and Scary Movie.
The second UYOA tournament took place
on 1st November 2000 at Milford Golf Club, Surrey and consisted
of a 9 hole team Texas scramble in the morning followed by an 18
hole individual Stableford round in the afternoon.
At 5,890 yards, the Golf Course is a Peter Alliss and Clive Clark design, and offers a magnificent challenge to golfers of all abilities, with many holes protected by well positioned bunkers and water features.
"If you're not good with water – bring your rubber ring
!!!" was the opening line from the email invite that
went out to all contenders!
Recollection is that it was touch and
go if the tournament would go ahead as there had been heavy rain
(or was it snow?!) the few days proceeding and until we got
there early doors on that morning we weren't sure if the course
would be open - luckily it was - YAY!
